My
Kayak

I fish a Mainstream
Patriot "Sportsman" Edition. This is a nice dry ride and is really
stable. It's definitely for freshwater (or at least fairly quiet water) and not
the pounding surf! I have been in some 2-3 foot swells and whitecaps in it. The
boat held up fine and I made it, but if capsized it would be harder to empty
versus a sit-on-top type of kayak.
I have only made a
few modifications to the boat so far, but they help a ton!
-
Anchors - Two
Harmony Folding Anchors. Instead of pulleys, I run the anchor ropes through
the tow straps, using a cam cleat near the cockpit to secure the rope. This
boat has one stern and one bow anchor.
-
Paddle Clips - The
kayak comes with a bungee on each side that you can use to hold paddles or
rods, but I installed a Harmony Paddle Clip System to help keep the paddle
more secure.
-
Navigation Lights -
Seasense all white stern light mounted right behind me. The light runs on 4 AA
batteries and can be removed to function as a flashlight.
-
Fish Finder -
Humminbird Piranha MAX 10 Portable Fish Finder. It runs on 8 AA batteries and
has a suction cup for the transducer. It holds great! This model has a nice
base that holds the cable that you are not using and functions to hold the
screen so you don't have to mount a thing!
-
GPS - Lowrance
iFinder H2O! This is the very best!
-
Lakes / Navigation
Chip - Navionics Map Chip. This has lakes from Texas to Florida!
