Susan Joins Mardi Gras Parade

HCCDC Braves the Cold for Mardi Gras

School is almost out for Mardi Gras vacation—but what is Mardi Gras without a parade?  The staff and students of the Harrison County Child Development Center bundled up against the cold temperatures and even colder wind to attend their very own Mardi Gras Parade Friday, February 01, 2008.  The Gulfport Police department came with their motorcycles and the DARE train—allowing staff to ride and throw beads, king pies and other goodies.  Susan Gregory, Pro Bass Fisherman and Harrison County School District Child Nutrition Specialist rode on her boat along with Child Nutritionist, Ky Creel and the Child Development Center’s Cafeteria Manager, Marilyn Bond.  The Joppa Temple Motor Corps were out in force with their “old cars” and specialized bikes.  The students were able to enjoy their own private parade where the riders could gently toss throws directly to them.  In addition, many of the Joppa Temple Motor Corp would stop their bikes and personally hand beads or stuffed animals to the students.  After the parade was finished, many of the men from the motor corps could be seen mingling amongst the students trying to interact and give the students even more “loot” than they had already received.  In spite of the weather, all of the students and staff had a good time.  The students came away with more than their share of parade throws.  All of these students were assured of having attended at least one parade this year.  There are many other parades still to come before Fat Tuesday, but none of these students can say, they didn’t go to any parades this year.  They went to their own parade—the HCCDC 2nd Annual Mardi Gras Parade.
